Dr. Shadrick Mazaza is a physician, philosopher and university academic. He is founder of African Consciousness Institute, an organization dedicated to the waking up, showing up and speaking up required to co-create the Africa we desire.
His academic journey began with a Bachelor of Science (Physics and Biology) degree before studying medicine at the University of Manchester Medical School. Specialist training in internal medicine and family medicine at the University of Cape Town led to private medical practice at Christiaan Barnard Memorial Hospital in Cape Town.
During his time in private practice, he pursued a deep interest in the mind-body connection. This interest led to exploration of human existence and experience by studying extensively natural, life and human sciences as well as western and eastern wisdom traditions. A directorship at a managed health care division of a major insurance company led to studying executive leadership at University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business. Upon completion of this degree, he joined the business school as senior lecturer in healthcare management and leadership.
His main focus is currently authentic leadership and personal transformation. His extensive leadership participation in the medical profession includes serving the boards of the South African Medical Association, the Council for Health Services Accreditation of Southern Africa, and the College of Family Physicians of South Africa. He is also deputy president and immediate past president of the South African Academy of Family Physicians.
